Princess Aiko turns 11
愛子さま 11歳に

Princess Aiko, the only child of Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako, celebrated her 11th birthday Dec.1st.
1日、皇太子・徳仁さまと皇太子妃・雅子さまの長女、愛子さまが11菜のお誕生日を迎えられた。

Summary

 The princess, a fifth-grader at Gakushuin Primary School in Tokyo, has been working hard to improve her English -language ability. She has been taking English conversation classes with a foreign teacher since May.

Reflection

 I remember watching the news on TV in an electric appliance shop, which informed about the birth of Princess Aiko. I was very surprised to read this article because 11 years have passed since I watched the news. I hope that she grows up in good health.

Nice to Meet You

Hi! I am Natsumi Aoto. I am from Shimane Prefecture. I am a member of the badminton club and MEDIATOR, which is a volunteer circle. MEDIATOR consists of our university, Yamaguchi university, Yamaguchi Gakugei university and Yamaguchi college of arts students. We join for events as volunteers. It's very interesting to meet many people through volunteer activities. Let's join us!! Our university is not large so you can make friends, who are not only the same department students but also other department students. I think it's the good point for our university. There are many other good points, so try to find them!! Bye:)

Ice-cream killer gets life
アイスクリーム店店主 終身刑に

An Austrian ice-cream parlor owner has been found guilty of killing her ex-husband and a boyfriend before chopping them up with a chain saw, and burying them in concrete in her shop's basement.
前夫と交際相手の遺体をチェーンソーでバラバラに切り刻み、店の地下室に遺棄した罪でオーストリアのアイスクリーム店の店主に有罪の判決が下った。

Summary

 A Vienna court convicted the 34-year-old woman of murder Nov.22nd. She may be a mental illness so the court ordered her to be held in psychiatric care.
 The woman, identified only as Estibaliz C., confessed to the murders Nov.19th, but her lawyer said she will appeal.
 She shot the men in 2008 and 2010, putting their body parts in a freezer before burying them in her cellar. She had told the court that her ex-husband failed to leave her alone and the boyfriend cheated on her.

Reflection

 I was regret that I was charmed by the word "ice-cream" and chose this article.  This case of murder was very grotesque so I was very badly during reading it. I think people who commit murder like this case are never forgiven if there are any reasons.

Pigeon bones found with WWII message
第二次大戦の暗号文、鳩の骨と共に見つかる

 Experts say the skeletal remains of a pigeon discovered in the chimney of a house in southern England carried a mysterious, long-forgotten message from World War II.
専門家が言うには、イギリス南部のある家の煙突から白骨化した伝書鳩と共に、第二次世界大戦以降長い間忘れ去られ解読不可能な暗号文が発見されたという。

Summary

 Historian at Britain's World War II-era codebreaking headquarters say the pigeon almost returned from France where was occupied by Nazi during the June 1944 D-day invasion.
 What the message says is not solved. It was coded, an unusual measure generally reserved for the most sensitive secrets.
 On Nov.1 Bletchley Park said that one of its manager is trying to solve the message using World War II logbooks.

Reflection

 Reading this article, I knew that pigeons were used to convey the messages in World War II. I was surprised that pigeons were entrusted very important things and carried out them. I hope that the message is solved as soon as possible.

The fourth article

Statue of Liberty reopened; storm delays crowds
自由の女神 内部観光再開も、ハリケーンで延期に

 The Statue of Liberty has officially reopened to the public after a renovation project.
自由の女神が改修工事を経て内部観光を正式に再開した。

Summary

 The statue had been closed for a year to undergo a $30 million interior renovation project, during which time visitors were restricted to the grounds on Liberty Island. The $30 million renovation included replacing the stairs to the crown and making them less steep. There are now 393 steps to the crown, instead of 354.
 Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and a group of U.S. Military Academy cadets were the first to visit Oct. 28th, but the statue was closed Oct.29th and Oct.30th because of the huge storm. The public  had to wait until the storm passed to enter the statue.
 An estimated 3.5 million people visit the statue every year. A Parks Service official said the renovations will allow an additional 26,000 people to go inside the monument annually.

Reflection

 I have never been to America, nor seen the statue. I did not know that it is possible to enter it. I would like to visit there while I am alive.

Yoshida to receive People's Honor Award
レスリング吉田、国民栄誉賞受賞

 The government decided Oct. 23 to bestow the People's Honor Award on three-time Olympic champion Saori Yoshida.
23日、政府は3度オリンピックチャンピオンに輝いた吉田沙保里選手に国民栄誉賞を授与することを決めた。

Summary

 The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting and the award will be given Nov. 7.
 Yoshida has won 13 Olympic and world titles in all. Her credit began at the 2002 world championships and includes Olympic gold medal in 2004, 2008 and this August in London. She has also won 10 national championships.
 Following the decision, Yoshida said, "I am honored to receive the award. I will continue to make efforts sincerely to inspire a lot of people."

Reflection

 I was watching the final match at the Olympic in London, and I was moved deeply. Watching her games give me a lot of power. I want to cheer her from now on, too.

Lady Gaga leads Twitter in followers

 Pop diva Lady Gaga has set a social media record by becoming the first person with more than 30 million followers on Twitter.
 As of Oct.16, she had more than 30,368,000 followers on the microblogging Web site and is adding them at the rate of 30,000 a day, according to the Starcount.com Web site that monitors celebrity use of social media.
 The 26-year-old ― real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta ― also passed 4 million mark on Google Plus in early October, where she is second only to Britney Spears on the search giant's social media platform.
 Starcount.com noted that her Twitter takeover started two years ago  when she passed Ashton Kutcher, Barack Obama and Spears.

 ポップスの世界的歌姫レディー・ガガが、ツイッターでフォロワー数3000万人を突破するという史上初の快挙を成し遂げた。
 ソーシャルメディアについて調査をしているStarcount.comによると、10月16日の時点で、マイクロブログでの彼女のツイッターのフォロワー数は3036万8000人を超えており、そしてそれは1日あたり3万人のペースで増え続けているという。
 本名Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta26歳は、10月はじめグーグルプラスですでにフォロワー数が400万人を超え、ブリトニー・スピアーズに次いで2位となったことがgiant's social media platformの調査でわかった。

Summary

 Lady Gaga becomes the first person who has over 30 million followers on Twitter. On the other hands, the number of her followers on Google Plus  reached 4 million.

Reflection

 I think that these numbers show popularity of Lady Gaga. The numbers will be increasing from now on.
